The Wellness Center of Door County is the only independent nurse managed clinic in Northeastern Wisconsin. Formed as a non-profit organization we opened our doors in 2003 with an emphasis on providing family planning and reproductive health services which are comprehensive and holistic in nature.
When patients come in to see us---we provide services not to a body part---but to them as whole person. We realize that the seasonal nature of Door and Kewaunee County, the ebb and flow of available jobs, the lack of benefits, and career/school plans all impact you as a person. We actively screen for issues of depression, anxiety and seasonal sadness.
Our funding comes from a small amount of family planning dollars allocated to Door and Kewaunee counties. This accounts for less than 10% of our operating budget. Our other funding comes from what we receive from private insurance, public insurance (Medicaid, BadgerCare), patient fees and any contributions you choose to make.
We provide care to you as though you were one of our family members.
Since opening in 2003 we have grown from 2 part-time employees to a staff of 13 (9 of whom are part-time). As the dedicated family planning clinic for Door and Kewaunee Counties, we have created a niche and state-wide reputation for compassionate, confidential and affordable reproductive health care. Since 2005 our growth enabled us to purchase our first small "home" and in 2011 we created a permanent and sustainable home that allows us to expand services and further meet the needs of our community.
In a typical year we serve more than 1,200 patients across all ages. Ten percent of our patients are male and most of our patients come to us with no insurance. One of the things that makes us unique is that we screen every patient for potential eligibility for program assistance so that their health care is as affordable as possible. We do take patients who have medical insurance including Affinity-Network Health, Aetna, ARISE, Health EOS/Multiplan, Health Payment Systems/Auxiant, Humana (including Medicare HMO/PPO), Managed Health HMO, UMR, United Health Care, WEA, and WPS.
As we continue to raise the money necessary to complete our expansion project our patient care area and the breadth of services are growing to meet our community's needs. Services will include both traditional medical approaches to health and alternative/complementary health services such as acupuncture, massage, qi gong, reiki, meditation and more!
